{"id":186,"date":"2022-08-01T15:15:26","date_gmt":"2022-08-01T15:15:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/segmail.io\/blog\/?p=186"},"modified":"2022-12-04T08:59:41","modified_gmt":"2022-12-04T08:59:41","slug":"why-weve-made-the-footer-element-mandatory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/segmail.io\/blog\/why-weve-made-the-footer-element-mandatory\/","title":{"rendered":"Why we&#8217;ve made the Footer element mandatory"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If you have been sending emails with us recently, you will notice that if you don&#8217;t add a Footer element, you will get a warning popup:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1039\" src=\"https:\/\/segmail.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/AddFooter.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-192\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We added this for 2 reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Amazon Web Service was warning us of the high bounce and complaint rates we were getting given that most of our customers are doing\u00a0<strong>Cold Outreach<\/strong>. This prompt us to investigate some of the gaps that we have in our Campaign-sending process. AWS has been really helpful in sharing with us what we can do to reduce our Complaint rates (hint: one simple way is just to ensure that you state clearly <a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/blogs\/messaging-and-targeting\/do-your-recipients-know-who-you-are\/\">who you are and why your subscribers\/customers\/recipients are receiving this email<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some of our customers were importing their lists from elsewhere (we can write another blog post for that) and hence added their own &#8220;Unsubscribe&#8221; links. This of course prevented us from tracking our own Unsubscribe rates and does not make the link stand out (By obscuring the unsubscribe link, you give your subscribers\/customers\/recipients no choice but to just click on the native unsubscribe buttons on their own email clients, or even &#8220;Report Spam&#8221; button.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>While this might cause some inconvenience, it helps you to avoid a high complaint rate because you give your subscribers an option, although it is always best to not send any emails without a proper double opt-in, which Segmail also provides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding our footer element helps you to track your Unsubscribe rates in each Campaign overview page:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1670\" height=\"388\" src=\"https:\/\/segmail.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Screen-Shot-2022-08-01-at-11.20.56-PM.png\" alt=\"Unsubscribe rates are tracked for each campaign\" class=\"wp-image-197\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We will definitely be introducing more enhancements and safeguards to help our customers reach out to theirs, at the same time, as well as protect their customer&#8217;s privacy.
